Asbestos:
The hidden killer
An
HSE campaign 2009
Asbestos-related disease kills over 4000
people a year in the UK.
If you carried out work on a building that was built or refurbished before the
year 2000, you could have been exposed to
asbestos, without even
knowing it. Even without drilling holes or deliberately altering
the fabric of a building, dressing a set and setting up
lighting stands etc., could accidentally damage a material
containing asbestos. Fibres released into the air may be
inhaled by anyone in the area. Fibres on clothes can be carried
back to the home and expose others to the risk.
Asbestos is a hidden killer. So the HSE wants you to get clued
up on the facts, so that you, your workmates, your friends
and family are protected.
